Kabini :: Mystic Woods

It was a cold, dark morning as I entered the mystical forest. The Darkness was accompanied by the sound of our vehicle tires drifting through the forest soil and crickets humming in the background. Amidst the cold breeze, I searched for those sparkling eyes in the woods. Our vehicle drove through the morning mist towards an unknown destination. The silence that filled the forest was eventually broken by the songs of birds. There is an inexplicable beauty that lies deep inside these woods. The endless paths entwined around the mighty trees have much to reveal; the beauty lies, not in the jungle itself, but how you see it!   Just go with the endless misty paths… It’s not the jungle itself but it’s how you see it…and YOU shall find the greatest treasures. 

This is my first interpretation of the mystical forest and land of magical trees…”KABINI…”

Kabini is southern India’s most popular wildlife paradise. This beautiful forest lies in the foothills of the south side of  The Western Ghats spread in the regions of the Bramhagiri hills and all the way towards the state of Kerala. The forest covers an area of around 640 sq. km and flourishes along the Kabini river.

Kabini offers rich biodiversity of flora and fauna. Herds of elephants dominate this forest and the tiger may be the predatory king of Kabini… but Kabini is really a land of leopards. And most of all when a rare elusive black panther walks against the mist from the waking night wins the hearts. 

Kabini is much more than this really. Various deer families, sloth bears, Indian gaur, and many resident-migratory birds make this forest their home.
